FUNERAL DIRECTOR/EMBALMER

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Funeral Director/Embalmer to be based in Wilmington/Dover, Delaware. This full-time position is expected to manage the clinical preparation and arrangement of services with families.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform embalmings and preparation of decedents for services, burial, and cremation in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Dress, casket, and cosmetize decedents consistent with company standards and policies.
  • Maintain preparation room, dispose of hazardous waste and promote a clean and safe preparatory environment.
  • Direct and coordinate all aspects of funeral arrangement process with families.
  • Oversee/support families throughout the visitation, cremation, and burial service.
  • Provide all service-related administration information to families in a concise and supportive manner.
  • Caring and compassionate disposition.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members and families.
  • Possess the ability to handle multiple priorities, exercise good judgment, and have good written and communication skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Funeral Directors License in the state of Delaware.
  • Hold valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
  • Capable of using standard office software

FUNERAL ATTENDANT

Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time Funeral Assistant to join our team in our Wilmington/Dover locations. You will support and assist Funeral Directors and general management with day-to-day funeral operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with funeral services and viewings
  • Assist client families
  • Assist with setting up for services and viewings
  • Ensure the safe and prompt arrival of families to services
  • Distribute and instruct families on the use of funeral decals and share general processional etiquette
  • Comply with directives of Funeral Director
  • Ensure the appropriate presentation of the decedent, casket, flowers, etc.
  • Transport/deliver as directed by Funeral Directors and general management
  • Light housekeeping
  • Communicate appropriate information to Funeral Directors and general management
  • Perform related tasks as assigned

OFFICE COORDINATOR

Job Summary

We are seeking an Office Coordinator to join our team in our Wilmington/Dover locations. You will perform clerical and administrative duties, catering to the needs of families, and ensuring seamless office operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between families, funeral directors, and office staff
  • General administrative and clerical duties
  • Draft correspondences and other formal documents
  • Plan and schedule appointments and events; Manage and coordinate appointment calendar
  • Greet and assist onsite guests
  • Coordinate, receive, and record payments
  • Verify insurance and complete coordinating paperwork; work with insurance company to complete claim
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records
  • Place orders for flowers, caskets, keepsakes, office, and other supplies
  • Create notices and other print material
  • Provide families with proof of print materials, manage changes, and secure approval
  • Coordinate printing of materials
  • Input information into company databases
  • Provide administrative support across the organization
  • Support and supervise subordinate staff
  • Perform all other office tasks
  • Ensure that public areas are presentable and stocked

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in office administration or other related fields
  • Proficient with standard suite of office programming
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Well-developed organizational skills
  • Exemplary time management skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year experience in a professional office setting
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid licensed and insurable driver
  • The capacity to lift up to 25 pounds, on occasion

TRANSPORT/REMOVALS

Evan W. Smith Funeral Services is seeking to add to our experienced and talented aftercare staff with compassionate individuals willing to serve bereaved families at their most vulnerable time. This is a full-time position; work frequency and hours would be guaranteed.  However, it may include calling in overnight, on weekends, or holidays.

Job Description: 

  • The Transporter is responsible for the care, removal, and transportation of decedents from various locations, including hospitals, assisted living facilities, hospices, private residences, and between designated company sites
  • The position also requires collecting vital information from the family and transferring decedents in a respectful and dignified manner into our care.

Hours: Day/Evening/Night Shift. As needed with weekday/weekend/early morning hours. (Per diem).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:
    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: 
    Six months of general work experience is required.
    Any prior funeral experience is preferred.
  • Notes:
    Training period dependent upon background
    Valid Driver's license is required
    Must be able to lift at least 100 lbs.
    Candidates should be well-groomed and expect to adhere to a formal dress code (i.e. at minimum, shirt & tie; suit preferred)
